
Clara D. Bloomfield, M.D. Read Press Release | The first appointment to the OSU Cancer Scholars Program is Dr. Clara D. Bloomfield. After serving as the Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center for six years, Dr. Bloomfield will remain at Ohio State to renew her pioneering research in leukemia. Dr. Bloomfield is an Elected Member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences and an Elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In addition, she holds the William Greenville Pace III Endowed Chair in Cancer Research. Her groundbreaking research in leukemia and lymphoma now spans more than three decades. She was among the first to suggest, and later show, that adult acute leukemia was curable with chemotherapy, that certain patients could be cured with special intensive drug treatments, and that others needed less intensive therapies. Dr. Bloomfield is the author of more than 380 research articles that have appeared in leading medical journals, has served as a member of the boards of directors of both the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association of Cancer Research, the two leading international oncology societies, as well as serving in numerous leadership roles on multiple NIH advisory committees and other research organizations. |
