Recent Achievements


  • The National Cancer Institute (NCI) awarded the OSUCCC a numerical score equivalent to "outstanding," renewed its standing as an NCI-designated "Comprehensive" Cancer Center and awarded core-grant funding of $19.2 million over five years following a 2004 peer review of its science programs.
  • The OSUCCC was awarded a five-year, $11.84 million grant to study chronic lymphocytic leukemia and translate basic research findings into clinical trials for patients with this disease.  Sampson Jacob, PhD, co-leader of the OSUCCC's Experimental Therapeutics Program, is prinicpal investigator.
  • The OSUCCC spearheaded the recruitment of 20 new basic and physician scientists focused on cancer research in 2006.
  • Many OSUCCC members were recognized nationally for their clinical and scientific achievements by organizations including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association of American Cancer Institutes, the American Association of Clinical Investigation, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the International Association for Comparative Research on Leukemia & Related Diseases.
  • The OSUCCC had 12 more scientists elected as fellows in the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2006
  • The OSUCCC realized an increase in NCI funding for cancer research to $39.6 million, up 12.5 percent from $35.2 million in 2005.
