About Us

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) was designated as a comprehensive cancer center in 1976 by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). We are one of only 39 Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States. To obtain comprehensive status, an institution must meet specific criteria for breadth and depth of research in basic research; clinical research; and prevention, control and population/behavioral sciences, in addition to their activities in public information, education and outreach. The NCI makes the final decision for comprehensive status.

The OSUCCC has a multidisciplinary team approach to cancer research, patient care, prevention and community outreach. We are an umbrella entity that unifies Ohio State scientists and researchers from 12 colleges at OSU who have a research focus on cancer and translate basic, clinical and prevention research into quality cancer care.

The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute is the patient-care component of the OSUCCC.
