AACR Clinical Cancer Research Fellowships 

NCI is inviting applications for funding under the Small Grants Program for Cancer Epidemiology. This program focuses on etiologic cancer research and provides support for pilot projects, testing of new techniques, or development of innovative projects that could provide a basis for more extended research. Approximately 30-40 small research project grants are anticipated. Applicants may request a project period of up to two years and a budget for direct costs of up to $100,000 per year. Eligible are for-profit and nonprofit organizations; public or private institutions such as universities, colleges, hospitals and laboratories; units of state and local governments; eligible agencies of the federal government; domestic or foreign institutions; and faith- or community-based organizations.

A one-year grant for junior faculty at the level of Assistant Professor, which provides $50,000 for salary, laboratory supplies, and limited domestic travel for any area of cancer research.

ACS-Barbara Thomason Research Professorship or Clinical Research Professorship for Ovarian Cancer 

The award is intended for an outstanding mid-career investigator who has made seminal contributions to the understanding of the etiology, genetics, pathogenesis, epidemiology, diagnosis or treatment of ovarian cancer and who continues to provide leadership in this research area.  Applications from distinguished investigators in all categories of ovarian cancer research, including basic, translational, clinical and applied research, are requested.

Applications for funding to support a competitive program in brain and immuno-imaging 

This program seeks to accelerate the development and application of innovative cellular and molecular imaging to clinical research on the functions and malfunctions of the brain, the immune system, and their interactions, in normal and aberrant functioning. Successful applicants proposing to undertake research using conventional brain tissue imaging technologies will receive funding totaling up to $100,000 over a period of up to three years. Applicants for a cellular or molecular imaging project can request up to $300,000 for a period of up to three years.

Breast Cancer Research Program 

This program provides investigators with the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations and explore new, untested ideas relevant to breast cancer. Approximately $10 million is expected to be available for 80 awards. Applicants may request up to $75,000 in direct costs over a one-year project period, plus indirect costs as appropriate. Cost-sharing of 50 percent for major equipment purchased is anticipated. Eligibility is unrestricted.

The Cancer Education Grant Program employs the R25 grant mechanism to provide funding for the development of innovative cancer education and research dissemination projects. R25 education grants may focus on education for a variety of target audiences: science or health care students with an interest in cancer research careers; established cancer scientists seeking short term educational updates in emerging cancer science areas such as genetics and molecular drug discovery; and health care providers in need of information on the latest developments in cancer prevention and control.

This Request for Applications (RFA) solicits applications searching for new cellular and genetic markers associated with the origin and progression of myeloproliferative disorders (MPD) that can be applied to the future development of novel therapeutics with curative intent.  A separate RFA HL-04-033 (please see

These programs support the early career development of clinical researchers expected to achieve excellence in their ability to design and oversee research in multidisciplinary team settings, and have a high potential to become leaders of various fields of clinical research. Multiple Myeloma Therapeutic Targets 

Proposals should address plans to identify and validate molecular targets for multiple myeloma.

 

Short proposals, in the form of abstracts, will be reviewed by an MMRF scientific review panel. A group of applicants will be selected to attend and present at a Research Roundtable with the MMRF and its external scientific advisors in January 2005.
