The Ohio State University and The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute will welcome champion cyclist and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong and the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) in July for the LIVE STRONG Summit, a biennial event to organize, inspire and direct the efforts of current and potential leaders who care about cancer issues. These participants will elevate and foster a local, regional and national dialogue for the war on cancer.
To be held July 24-27 on the Ohio State campus, the LIVE STRONG Summit will bring together 1,000 people from across the nation, all united with the singular purpose of making cancer a national priority. Selected through an application process, the LIVE STRONG Summit attendees, called delegates, will be inspired by renowned keynote speakers and empowered through hands-on training sessions to return to their communities and support the LAF's efforts to fight cancer. Delegates will attend seminars focused on grassroots activities – advocacy, fundraising and elections.
In conjunction with the Summit , the LAF will present the LIVE STRONG Presidential Town Hall on Cancer with presumptive Republican presidential candidate U.S. Sen. John McCain at the Schottenstein Center at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 24. Presumptive Democratic presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Barack Obama has been invited to participate, and the LAF looks forward to confirming his attendance. The LAF selected Ohio State as the Summit site in part because of the pivotal role that Ohio will play in the upcoming presidential election. The presidential candidate events are free, but tickets are required.
In addition, Ohio State was selected as the LIVE STRONG Summit site because of its pioneering role in cancer research, diagnosis and treatment at its Comprehensive Cancer Center and The James, as well as its leadership in state and federal legislation promoting access to cancer clinical trials. The James is also part of the LIVE STRONG Survivorship Center of Excellence Network.
